When to call.

You’re opening a space

Opening a commercial space in Houston? Make sure you call H&S Plumbing.

The city sent comments

They send comments back. They want corrections. Then you have to get an inspector on schedule. Every one of those can stall you if nobody’s on it.

You run the job

Before you hire a commercial plumber, ask who handles the permits. If it’s you, that’s your schedule on the line.

You deal with us. We deal with the city.

  1. The permit

A lot of commercial plumbing work needs one before it starts. We handle the permit for you.

  2. The city

The comments, the corrections, getting an inspector on the schedule. After a decade of commercial plumbing, I know what they’re asking for.

  3. The inspection

The other trades can’t close up a single wall until plumbing passes. So we get the job ready before the inspector ever sees it.

On price.

I won’t be the highest or the lowest. I’m smack in the middle.

“Great company. Need help on commercial project. Team was very knowledgeable and thorough. They passed the inspection the first time. It was a stress free experience. Would recommend 1000%.”

On the job.

Questions I get asked.

I’m opening a new restaurant. What plumbing mistake costs owners the most?

There’s a saying I go by: buy right or buy twice. The most expensive thing you’ll ever buy is something you have to buy twice. Some restaurants like to put in three-inch main lines. I like to do four-inch main lines. The grease going down the drain, if you don’t maintain your drain, starts to clump and becomes hard grease, and you’ll have a lot of issues down the line. So during construction, have a four-inch main line.

Why do plumbing inspections fail on commercial jobs?

You have multiple reasons. If a job does fail, normally they write you a checklist, and you take care of the checklist and do what’s asked. Then you wait for the inspector again. Inspection day is the wrong day to find out something’s off. After ten years, we’ve learned what they look for. So we get the job ready before the inspector ever sees it.

I’m a general contractor. What makes a plumbing sub easy to work with?

It goes back to character. It really is the relationship you have with your subcontractors. If you got stand-up guys that go to war with you, you’ll be fine. And before you hire one, ask who handles the permit. If it’s you, that’s your schedule on the line. With us, the permit, the city and the inspection are on us.

I manage a building full of tenants. What should a plumber check?

The type of pipe you have. If it’s galvanized iron and the building went up in the late sixties or early seventies, definitely consider doing a repipe. It only takes one joint to bust, and you’ll have a massive bill from the plumbing side, the remediation side and the electrician side, and the sheetrock guys will have to come in. Catch it before it’s too late.

Name, number, what’s going on.
